How effective are the whitening toothpaste?
Whitening toothpaste works by polishing superficial stains with the mild abrasives that it contains. It does not contain the active ingredient that is only available over the counter at the dentist surgery. The effect of home use toothpaste does not come close to chair side bleaching or take-home whitening. Teeth whitening should be prescribed under professional application and guidance.
Sensitivity?
99% of the population have suffered teeth sensitivity. It is important to obtain a proper diagnosis of the problem before resorting to sensitive toothpaste.
How early should I bring my child to the dentist?
It is advisable to start the regular routine check at a young age to let the child familiarize with the dental setting. Children as young as three years old can start coming to the dentist for a brief but fun experience – be introduced to the chair, overhead TV that plays their favourite movie and our lovely team at Dental Health Centre. The dentist will go through oral hygiene protocols for toddlers and young children; and take home preventative education that would benefit the whole family.
Is it safe to see a dentist whilst pregnant?
We recommend regular check-up and clean to maintain good oral health. Invasive dental treatment should be performed before pregnancy or deferred post-delivery. For pregnant women it is most suitable to visit the dentist during the second trimester. Patients with severe dental phobia and is likely to be highly anxious during the appointment should consult prior to dental treatment.
Should I have my wisdom teeth removed?
Not all wisdom teeth need to be removed providing the teeth have erupted in correct positions and are functional. However, this is usually not the case. If the tooth is partially impacted it can cause problems such as pericoronitis (inflammation of surrounding gum tissue); resorption of neighbouring tooth and cystic formation. Another reason to have wisdom teeth removed is if there are any difficulties in keeping the wisdom teeth clean and free from plaque.
Does my child need braces? What age should they start orthodontics treatment?
Braces correct for two main reasons, aesthetics and most importantly, function. If you notice any gap/crowding/rotation/overlap/cross bite/missing teeth in your children’s dentition, they will likely benefit from orthodontic correction. Malocclusion is usually corrected after eruption of all permanent teeth, usually between 11-13 for girls and 13-15 for boys. Other types of malocclusion with skeletal component will require earlier intervention, sometimes from age 7
Can an adult have braces?
Age is not an issue to moving teeth. However orthodontic movements in adults are slower than young adulescents due to higher bone density. There are certain medications that hinder teeth movement therefore discolsure of all list of medications taken is essential.
Eligibility for Medicare teen voucher
Medicare provides teenagers with eligibility a dental voucher that covers the cost of an annual preventative dental check.
